Be Green- Transportation

Perhaps one of your goals (or more) for the new year includes something about making your life more green and efficient. Good choice mate! Here are some good ideas for helping the world this year & beyond:

1. Considering buying a new car? If so, look at hybrids and more energy efficient cars, they may be more expensive, but better for the Earth in the long run. Besides, what's money worth if we destroy our planet with all of our pollution? That's right, nothing. Or, an even better alternative, don't buy a new car, and use your current one a lot less. That will mean less scrap metal, chemicals, and plastics in the landfills.

2. Don't drive- walk or bike. Walking and biking are great, green ways to get around, especially if you don't need to go far. You don't put out any harmful emissions or fumes when you walk or bike. These are also great ways to exercise if you find that you don't have time for fitness classes or don't like going to gyms. So, four plusses here; it's a completely green way of getting around that burns calories, gains muscle, and keeps you awake and in great health.

3. Take advantage of local transportation. Most cities or towns have some form of community transportations, such as trains, trams, busses and other methods. If your community does not offer means of local transportation, carpool often or walk/bike.

4. You could always just get rid of your car. Though this measure seems a bit drastic, selling your car could gain you advantages. If you live in one of those places where you just don't need a car, sell it, and use local transportation or walk/bike. Without a car, you'll save tons of money you'd otherwise be paying for gas and repairs. Even though train, tram, and bus tickets may add up over time, they will still be less than gas and repair costs and more energy efficient.

So, try these ideas for the new year, even if you can't do something like selling your car, do what you can to lower emissions and help the Earth. And tell your friends, family, or colleagues at work to do the same, it will make a difference.
